Two nights in Nîce
Nîce is Nice. I know. I’ve heard it, seen the texts, the comments. Ha ha.
Sacha and I drove down to the city on Friday with our friends, where we had two nights booked in a hotel near the Promenade. Rob & Kevin were leaving France today, and Meredith & Jeff tomorrow. So this weekend sort of marks a halfway point for Sacha and me, where one group departs, we come back to Aups, and tomorrow welcome the second.
Unfortunately, Sacha and I were not 100% at any point the whole weekend. Sacha has had various coughs and sore throats and a lost voice. In my case, I think two weeks of eating sausages and cheese and red meat for the first time in years, plus the drinking, has caught up with me. The smells and the heat and the constant input of visiting a big grand city to which I’ve never been made every corner a bit of a queasy experience. I did get a run in on Saturday morning, and the food I ate was fantastic.
But neither of us got much sleep.
I visited Cafe du Cycliste, which is a great shop right on the harbor. Got to see where the Tour de France will finish this year on the Promenade des Anglais (first time ever not in Paris) and it’s spectacular. Wish I could still be in France for that. We spent a lot of time with friends, wandered around alone, and people-watched, which Sacha and I are always happy to do.
On the way out this morning, before packing the car, I collected a pocket full of stones and pebbles off the beach. I took a jewelry class back in Phila a few weeks ago and I’m interested in doing some work with cabachons and so-on with some wooden figurines I have planned.
Now we’re back at the quiet Aups house, with blissfully nothing to do. Family arrives tomorrow, but until then I plan to nap and read and draw.
Here is a wee photo-dump.
